An appointment with me is a full service experience, and together we create the steps you can continue to use at home between your appointments to get consistent results. As a new client, you will receive one-on-one individualized training and my undivided attention. Our first appointment will be approximately 4 hours, depending on hair length and thickness and will include a dry cut and hands-on education so you leave knowing how to continue caring for your wavy and curly hair. 

You can prepare your hair for a new client appointment in advance by taking my online course, 'Wave & Curl Foundations' which will put your curls in the best shape for your custom curly haircut. 

Coming from many years of experience in working with curly hair clients, I now offer two wonderful services. I am excited to release the New Client Experience and the New Client Curl Coaching, and you have the opportunity to choose your experience. These services are laser focused for your curly hair experience. You are not receiving just a haircut. I take on the responsibility to provide you with options and experience. What is an experience you ask?

For new clients it can look like: 

• A personalized hair assessment
• A full consultation
• A deep dive into your current hair routine
• Discuss the products you’re currently using
• Define your hair goals
• Create a plan you can use to get consistent results at home
• Troubleshoot your routine based on anything that comes up during your appointment
• Send you home prepared with new skills to help you with your hair

• All new client services come with an invitation to my private Facebook group, the Curl Club, as well as product suggestions specifically to suit your hair goals

For your second and any future appointments, the full list of ‘Returning Client’ appointment options will be available to you, as listed in my online booking system. As a first time client, the skills you learn during the New Client Experience or New Client Coaching you will have for a lifetime and the insight you gain into your hair is priceless. Helping you reach your full curl potential with your best healthy hair is my mission.

Curl Coaching with me is recommendations specifically made for just you, based on my many years working as a Curl Specialist. I will TEACH you all you need to know about working with your hair and what it needs. Skills are taught through hands-on learning, based on our consultation together about your lifestyle and hair goals. I show you how and then you do it - it’s an interactive appointment to really cement your learning process. Some people learn through reading, listening and hands-on… I do all three so you really understand what you need to do. I will create an at-home hair routine for you to follow (with your input) and give you the skills you need that will fast track you to your best hair. 

Curl Coaching also includes suggestions on what styling techniques and types of products that will work best for your hair. My coaching also teaches you different product applications that your hair would benefit from most including how much to use and when.

The short answer is no—it’s not required. While I highly recommend taking my Wave & Curl Foundations' online course before your first appointment, it’s completely optional. The course helps prepare your hair, align our terminology and techniques, and allows you to practice ahead of time so we can fine-tune your routine and dive deeper during your visit. It includes short educational videos, a detailed e-book, and helpful PDFs, all designed to help you get the most out of your curls and our time together.

The wait for an appointment is typically 2–8 months, and I promise it’s worth it. While you’re waiting, let your hair grow and only get small trims to keep it healthy so I have plenty to work with at your first visit. I also recommend taking my online course during this time to gain a deeper understanding of your hair and set yourself up for success.

My fee is an hourly rate which is gender neutral. New client appointments are typically 4 hours long, more if your hair is long, thick and takes a long time to dry.

The salon is also a no tipping salon, so the price you see on each service is the total investment. If you still want to tip, I would so appreciate a Google Review instead!

All new clients pay at time of booking to secure your spot and confirm your serious interest.

Cash, Visa, and Mastercard are accepted forms of payment for products and services. Credit cards are gladly accepted, cash is greatly appreciated.

Sulfates are in your cleansers and they strip the hair of moisture. Silicones are in most conditioners (professional and drugstore) and build up on the hair to create a barrier to the water that is the only way to truly hydrate your hair.  When the water can’t penetrate, you end up with more frizz because the hair is so dry underneath the layers of silicone (aka liquid plastic).  Think of it like water off a ducks back, or a pepperoni stick that’s been shrink wrapped.  For curly individuals who wear their hair curly all the time, these two ingredients in haircare products are detrimental to defined, healthy, frizz reduced curls. 

On a humid/rainy day, when your hair starts to frizz and expand, it’s trying to reach out for the water in the environment like someone who is thirsty in the desert!  When you remove sulfates and silicones from your hair care routine, your curls can finally get the hydration they need from water during your washing/styling process, and the hair can fluctuate with the environment better. This results in beautiful, juicy, frizz reduced healthy curls!  You pay attention to what ingredients are in the food you eat, so consider the need to pay attention to the ingredients in your haircare and what you put on your hair.

Clients who use sulfate and silicone free products on their hair can also go longer between haircuts, which will save you money!

It's important for me to see the curls as you actually wear them...DRY!  The only way I can tell how much each curl springs up when pulled on is to look at your spring factor when the hair is dry. This way I don't take too much length from any one area.  I will take more off a wave then I would a tight coil right beside it to create a balanced visual length. Conventional wet cuts can stretch curls out of place, thereby causing the curls to spring up unpredictably and with un-favorable results when dry. 

The custom curl cuts I create are always done dry, paying respect to each individual curl by addressing it where it lives.  Each curl is cut bluntly at the end, and layering has a gradual “cascade” effect. No thinning or texturizing techniques are ever used in this method. Only the ends of the hair are cut, like a gardener would shape a shrub. Because each curl is allowed to make a full rotation with a smooth, finished end, clients with a dry cut usually find they can go longer between visits. 

Clients always arrive with their hair washed and styled curly in the last 24 hrs before their service and I start cutting right after our consultation. 

What is my approach to cutting and styling curly hair? 

I specialize in sculpting, styling, and daily maintenance of natural hair and I create haircuts personalized to your specific curl patterns and head shape. Each cut is original and designed especially for you using my training from Devacurl, Head Shape Matters and Curly Hair Artistry. A different approach is taken for each client to ensure that you receive the best curly hair care experience for you.

Scheduling your haircuts every 3-4 months is best practice; going no more than 6 months between haircuts. If your hair is worn shorter or you have several different curl patterns on your head that grow out quickly in places, you should book an appointment every 10-14 weeks. If you are maintaining a length you love, book every 4 months. If you are growing your hair out, book every 5-6 months.

I cut every type of curl…from barely wavy to tight curls.  Curl is curl, no matter the tightness and pattern. It is my job as a curl specialist to know how to cut every curl pattern. I may employ different cutting and styling methods for each type of curl pattern; as we know not all curls can be treated the same.

I have taken advanced and specialized training in all types of curly hair to be able to address every curl pattern that graces my chair.  If I don’t know, I am not afraid to ask a curly Hair Stylist colleague for help. I love what I do and want you to know the best version of your hair possible. Check out my training and qualifications above.

It’s best to get your hair cut for how you wear it 90% of the time. If you wear your hair curly, a dry curly cut is ideal and designed to look balanced when worn curly. It will likely be uneven when worn straight. 

If you wear your hair straight most of the time, a traditional wet cut may be a better fit. It will not translate into a perfect shape when curly, and often thinning techques are used if you want to wear your hair straight.

There is no method of haircutting that will give you a perfect shape when worn both straight and curly.

My cuts can work with a blown-out look that still has some bounce, but not flat ironing. Note: If you do straighten, always use heat protectant—heat over 250°F can damage curls.

I don’t offer hair coloring services, but you’re welcome to color your hair at home or with another stylist. Lighter color and highlights can be more damaging to curls, while staying close to your natural shade or going darker is usually gentler. My focus is on curly hair education and custom dry haircuts, and I’m always happy to share recommendations if you ask.

My salon is on the southside of Fredericton, NB.  After clients have booked a service, my salon address is sent directly with your booking confirmation email (check your junk mail!).  I work from a private boutique salon, by appointment only and do not take walk-in clients.

I encourage you to arrive just 5 mins prior to your appointment; as I usually take the full amount of time on each client and wouldn’t want you sitting too long waiting. Services begin and end on time as best as I can manage it.  Sometimes curly hair services, especially drying times cannot be predicted and I always do my best to stay on time.  If you arrive and cannot wait, please let me know asap so I can reschedule your appointment at a mutually agreeable date/time.

Please park in the driveway only, not on the street. You can text 613-661-8881 when you arrive or ring the doorbell and wait for a response.

Note on who can come with you: 

The studio is a small space, just big enough for you and I for our one-on-one appointment. 

The three exceptions to this rule are:

• If you booked a service for your child. Please arrive only with the child you booked the appointment for and find childcare for any other children.
• If you've booked a service back to back with a friend
• If you need to breastfeed

When you book an appointment, I set that time aside just for you and I do not double book. A minimum of 48-hrs’ notice is requested if you wish to cancel or re-schedule your appointment.

Returning clients are able to reschedule themselves through my online booking system, Schedulicity.

Contact me ASAP to avoid penalty. I will not be held responsible for cancellations that are called in, texted in, sent to the wrong email address or not sent in accordance with this policy.

• You have up to 24 hrs before your schedule appt to cancel/reschedule without penalty
• If a cancellation is made with less than 24 hours’ notice and I cannot fill your spot last minute, your credit card will be charged the full appointment price. If clients do not show up to their booked appointment without any notification, your card will be charged the full appointment price a no-show fee, and you may not make any future appointments without payment in FULL for your next appointment at the time of booking. You are welcome to send someone in your place!

Note About Late Arrival:

In fairness to other guests; if you arrive late, I regret that I may not be able to accommodate your full service on that day. Should you be running late, I will hold your appointment for 15 minutes provided I hear from you. If you are more than 15 minutes late without notice, you may be charged the full appointment price and asked to reschedule.

Sometimes for reasons beyond my control, waiting periods may be longer than normal due to hair taking a longer time to dry. If a delay occurs I will inform you as soon as possible and I will reschedule your appointment at no charge if you are unable to wait. 

AUTOMATED APPOINTMENT CONFIRMATIONS

My booking service will automatically send you a text/email reminder within a few days advance of your appointment.  ALSO, when you initially schedule your appointment, a confirmation text/email is generated by the booking system and sent to you.  Please check your spam box if you do not receive this confirmation.  Add my email to your list of contacts in order to receive all email appointment notifications.

• We’re a team—proper prep ensures the best results and a beautiful finish.

• I use a curl-by-curl approach combining Head Shape Matters, Deva-inspired dry cutting, and Curly Hair Artistry techniques. I shape your hair dry, then wash, style, and walk you through personalized tips.

• We’ll discuss your challenges and tailor routines to your lifestyle. It may take a couple of visits to perfect your product routine and techniques, but each appointment builds your skills.

• Expect it to take several months for your curls to reach full potential as we undo years of heat and product damage. Patience pays off!

• After your first visit, you’ll gain access to my private client-only Facebook group for ongoing support.

• I take before/after photos for progress tracking and may use side/back shots on social media unless you request otherwise.

• If you’ve had a disappointing DevaCut before, remember every stylist interprets curls differently.

• Great curls come from three parts: a quality dry cut, sulfate/silicone-free products used correctly, and learning how to work with your curls. I’ll teach you—practice at home is essential.

Haircuts are non-refundable. I am happy to make adjustments to your cut as long as you make your request within 14 days after your booked service. I will book you in for a 15 minute appt to make some quick adjustments to make it right for you. If you wish for a full recut to change the shape, there will be a charge for your service

If you contact me after that time period, then you must book yourself in for another  appointment at your convenience through my booking system.
